End-to-end logistic solutions and strategic thinking help keep Storopack’s distribution chain moving
The client
Storopack is a global leader in the manufacture and supply of flexible protective packaging solutions, including air cushions, paper pads, PU foam packaging systems and loose-fill packaging materials. Established as a family company in 1874, and with 68 manufacturing locations in 19 countries, today their values of tradition and innovation continue to shape everything they do. They understand that one product doesn’t fit all. Customers require a long-term, customised and sustainable protective packaging solution that adds value by optimising their packaging processes.
In 2003, Storopack UK were fast outgrowing their own internal storage facilities. Initially, they began seeking the support of a UK-based warehousing partner to provide a secure location to unpack, sort and store their goods before onward delivery across the UK could be arranged. Sanderson Transport provided the extensive facilities they were looking for, combined with competitive rates and capability to handle volume. But it wasn’t long before Sanderson also began handling the vast majority of Storopack’s distribution services throughout the UK and since then, Sanderson Transport has provided an integrated, end-to-end warehousing and distribution solution.

The challenge
One of Storopack’s key values is ‘partnership’. They didn’t need a storage and delivery services supplier, but a trusted logistics partner, offering expertise and strategic support through a period of increasing growth. We needed to be able to handle multiple daily container deliveries into our main, Market Harborough-based warehouse depot, and in addition to checking, unpacking and storing freight, we also needed to carry out detailed product checks, ensuring that everything was ready to ship on time. Consignments came to us directly from the suppliers in Europe, via a trusted third-party, where inspections and reports could be carried out.
2020-21 became a year when Sanderson Transport needed to go the extra mile in adapting to support Storopack’s needs. The Covid-19 pandemic presented the challenge of supply and demand in the packaging sector, with a huge uplift in volume driven by the booming e-commerce marketplace. The uncertainty around a no-deal Brexit created an imperative for stockholding contingencies and for adopting new, complex administration processes.

The solution
Timing is everything, and our capability to meet Storopack’s exact delivery schedule has been essential. Thanks to our fine-tuned processes, attention to detail and our team’s commitment to high service levels, we are able to not just get the job done, but get it done more accurately and efficiently to ensure that each consignment proceeds uninterrupted.
Our team have lent their expertise, and strategic support to help Storopack develop efficient solutions to the challenges of growth, and adapt quickly to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit. Our suite of advanced services help turn our strategic planning into action, including:
On-demand
logistics services
24/7 warehousing across 100,000 square feet
Microlistics Warehouse Management System
The nationwide capability of an 80+ strong vehicle fleet
Integrated communications through our Online Portal
Real-time tracking and reporting
The difference
Sanderson Transport is an extremely reliable partner, and their trucks turn up on time every day to load pallets from Brackley for delivery next day to our customers. They have even added our company branding on one of their curtain-sided vehicles, which was a very nice touch and represents the fact that they work as an extension of our business.
Storopack has increased in size over the years and they have been first rate in supporting our growth by providing a logistics service that in my opinion is second to none. In 2014 we acquired our property in Brackley that equipped us with our own pallet space, but this quickly filled up and Sanderson continued to store a vast proportion of our stocks.
Commercial Director Ed Sanderson is a great sounding board and provided excellent advice during the lead up to Brexit. As we purchase the majority of our goods from Europe, he helped support a contingency plan in the event of a no-deal Brexit, which involved increasing our stockholding considerably during Q4 2020. Ed went to great lengths to accommodate our need for additional storage space. Now, with the new customs arrangements in place, Sanderson Transport continue to support our business by preparing our customs declarations to ensure our goods move smoothly under the new arrangements.
In summary, they are a great partner to Storopack and have been instrumental in supporting our growth and keeping our customers happy!

The metrics
In 2020 Sanderson Transport’s services helped Storopack to achieve an OTIF rating of:
